Fire Science
An exciting new program, this two year hands-on
program leads to the associate in applied science
non-transfer degree. Students may opt to continue
for the Associate in Science transfer degree, which
requires additional general education classes.
This program concentrates on professional firefighter
training, serving 24 or more students each year.
Curriculum
Aligned with National Firefighters Professional
Association standards, the course of study is designed
to meet local needs, ranging from EMT and driver-operator
training to hazardous materials handling.
Garden City Fire Department lieutenants teach
the fire science courses. The program stresses
hands-on training to assure that every graduate
will not only learn the theory, but also be able
to use it.
Agency Cooperation
Agencies backing this new program include the
Garden City, Dodge City, Holcomb and Liberal Fire
Departments;
Garden City Police Department; Finney County
Sheriff’s Office; Finney County EMS and
the University of Kansas Fire Training Program.
