About
Us
Who we are:
A locally-created system to give people like you
the kind of education it will take for success in
the 21st Century.
Partnership: The
Career Learning System is a partnership involving
Garden City Community College, USD 363 of Holcomb
and USD 457 of Garden City.
Mission:
The Career Learning System will provide a focus
for school-to-career transitions for traditional
and non-traditional age students.
Who we serve:
Individuals of traditional school age. Persons already
employed who need to upgrade their skills in academics
or technical areas. And people who are currently
unemployed and looking for a new career path..
Centers of Excellence:
The Career Learning System Centers of Excellence
provide adults of any age the kind of education
it will take for individual success in the 21st
Century. High school students in Finney County are
able to participate in Centers of Excellence their
junior and senior years. The Centers of Excellence
offer a seamless, technologically focused program
designed to yield a high school diploma, certification
and/or post secondary degree and employment.
Each Center of Excellence, operating with input
from local advisory groups, offers different opportunities.
To participate in most Centers of Excellence, interested
individuals should complete an application and go
through an interview process. After the interviews,
instructors, along with industry partners, determine
individuals most suited for participation in the
program. There are a limited number of students
accepted each year.
Information about how to enter a Center of Excellence
program is available from an appropriate counselor.
Finney County high schools students should contact
their high school counselor. Students from other
counties, as well as adults, should contact GCCC
Counselor JoAnn Garrier at 620-276-9635. Individuals
of any age who have questions may contact Judy Crymble
at judy.crymble@gcccks.edu
or Linda Holmquist at linda.holmquist@gcccks.edu.
Goals:
People who participate in CLS
Centers of Excellence will:
- Acquire essential skills in math, communications
and science.
- Apply work place skills through problem solving,
team building, time management and productive
work habits.
- Develop technological literacy by acquiring
or upgrading necessary skills.
